Get to know a little more about our dance teacher and admin assistant, Miss Ciara
We’re back at it with our staff spotlight series this week! In this blog you’ll get to learn a bit more about our incredible staff members at Dance Sensations! This week we’re introducing Miss Ciara, who you’ll find here at DS 6 days a week! Miss Ciara is a dance teacher, admin assistant and student and she still takes classes in a huge range of styles from technique and troupe to jazz and contemporary. Read on below to learn a bit more about Miss Ciara.

What role do you play as a part of our DS team?
I work at Dance Sensations 6 days a week doing a bit of a variety of things! On the teaching side I teach our technique classes from our youngest dancers up to the 15 and unders, as well as a range of hobby classes, soloists and our youngest troupe! On the admin side I’m often at the front desk with Miss Beth and I do some behind the scenes work on costuming, social media and various bits and pieces such as concert organisation etc.

When did you start dancing and teaching?
I started dancing all the way back in 2007 in a jazz class with my very first teacher Miss Hannah! I only took 1 or 2 dance classes per week for my first few years at DS. As I fell more in love with the sport and the culture here, I began adding classes and had a dream of getting into the troupe program at DS, and in 2015 my dreams came true! From that point on I picked up my classes from 3 per week to 22 classes per week by the time I was in year 12! I started assisting technique classes in 2017 and I now work about 30 hours per week here.

What Is Your Favourite Style Of Dance And Why?
At the moment I’m loving Commercial Jazz and Hip Hop but my favourite style of dance changes all the time! It honestly depends on what type of movement inspires and challenges me the most at any given point. If I had to choose my overall favourite it would probably be contemporary! I love contemporary because there are so many interpretations of contemporary movement, and it combines techniques from every style of dance. I also find that whenever I’m stressed or just want to do some feel-good dancing contemporary movement feels the best in my body!

What Do You Love Most About Your Job?
On the teaching side, there is just nothing better than seeing students progress from day one to the end of a year! Being part of the journey for my students to find their passion in dance, develop a strong work ethic and achieve goals that they may have not thought possible is the most fulfilling part of my work.
On the admin side I love developing connections with the parents, guardians and families and getting to know our clients on a more personal level! I also have to mention that I’m obsessed with organisation, which is a bonus!

Besides dance, what are some of your other interests and hobbies?
As much as I adore every aspect of dance, I actually have lots of interests outside of the dance world. I am currently in my second year at university studying a double degree in Commerce and International studies. Over the next year I plan to complete my Cert IV in dance teaching and management which is super exciting! I love to travel, go to the beach and spend time with my friends and family!
